Reviews
Called to make appointment for newly adopted kitten, got answering message. Hung up, wait 5 minutes, called again, same message asked to leave information and will call back so I left message. I waited for a day, no called back. Do I want to call again? NO!
I brought my little chihuahua mix here in the morning of 11/14/25 because she was bitten/ attacked by a couple of off leash Rottweilers that got loose from a neighbors yard. on 11/15/25.... 24hrs after the surgery... my dog had passed.
When I brought my dog in, the vet on duty said there was a good chance of saving my dog but it required surgery. The 1st estimate they gave me was for a little over $1100. I said fine, then a little later, the nurse tells me she forgot to put in an anesthesia charge in my original estimate and it would add another $375. I said OK (I believe this was an honest mistake but still a mistake). the total bill for the surgery was $1533.52, I leave my dog at this vet and go home.
A few hours later I get a call from the vet to pick up my dog around 3:30. I get there at 3:15 and they said it would be another 1hr wait so I go home and come back at 4:30. I talk with the vet about how the surgery went. He tells me it went well and to give my dog these 2 medications every 12hrs for the next week and also follow up in 4 days. He also tells me feed my dog regular food. I have no idea how to take care of this sick dog after surgery so I ask the vet if he can give me some directions on how to take care of my dog while she is recovering. I ask if he can write up some directions for me. He tells me the instructions are on the bottle and watch out for a fever.
They bring my dog out and she is not in good shape. I couldn't even touch her without her yelping. A few hours after I bring her home, she seem a little better but keeps drinking a lot of water and keeps vomiting water and mucus in various areas of my home. I stay up all night trying to take care of her but I have no idea what I'm doing. It would've been really helpful if I had some sort of written up instructions on what to expect, and what kind of behavior I should watch out for, fever, vomiting, not eating ect... and what to do if I see such behavior.
The next day, I try to give her the medications the vet gave me but she would not eat at all. I try everything, cooked chicken, peanut butter, cooked white rice. things that she would instantly eat if she was well. I call the vet and tell the nurse on duty that my dog will not eat the medication or any food and she throw up water/mucus 5 times last night. She says I can bring her in for an IV for dehydration but cant guarantee she will take her meds. She also tells me its normal for dogs to not want to eat after a major surgery but when I was there the day before, the vet tech told me my dog will be able to eat regular food with the meds. I had to go to work so I left her at home and a few hours later, when I got home... my dog had passed.
I would just like to say I believe this vet did his best to save my dog and I hold no ill will towards him or his business. I only ask you guys provide better follow-up care instructions for the next person that brings in their dog for a major surgery.

I brought my 12 week old puppy in and was trying to get a health certificate to fly with her. I had my suspicions my puppy had a UTI. The vet technician said if my puppy had a UTI, the health certificate couldn't be issued. The vet technician took the puppy and ran a urinalysis, confirming she had a UTI. We got a week of antibiotics. That vet appointment cost $330. We gave her the antibiotics and came back the next week. We came back the next week and the same vet technician ran another urinalysis. She told us the urinalysis was clear and gathered information for the health certificate ($245). The vet bill was $485.
I had issues with paperwork being incorrect, the puppies weight, birthday, health certificate. I had to call the office twice about the incorrect paperwork. I went into the office and waited for the paperwork to be corrected. The health certificate was completely wrong, my name wasn't even on the paperwork. It took 4 times for the actual veterinarian to get the information right. I didn't see the veterinarian at all, any of the 3 times!
I flew my puppy to my new home state. I still noticed she had issues urinating. I decided to take her into the vet again, 2 days after arriving home. Lo and behold, she still had the UTI and a secondary infection: a bladder stone. This vet appointment was $428. I had to get the puppy prescription food ($120), more antibiotics and ant-inflammatory drugs. I still have to take my puppy in again for a recheck of the UTI, another X-ray and urinalysis. The vet rechecked her and she still has protein in her urine. The vet ran blood work and it is mostly okay. Next week, I take her in for a urine culture.
Sunshine Veterinary Care cost me an extra $1,110 (and counting) and cleared my puppy to fly when she was still sick! Disgusting! I really question if the tests were completed by the veterinarian. The veterinarian didn't come in after the tests, to discuss her health or health plan.

We chose Sunshine Veterinary Care for a second opinion and we are happy with our experience. Kind staff, informative and most of caring. They all treated us like family. Our cats were very sick and with their help they are doing well now. We like that they are close to home, and when you call to ask questions they are all delightful.
