In the 1980s, Dr. Liao’s parents immigrated to the United States from Taiwan, eventually settling in the Diamond Bar area in California, where he would grow up. They did not know the language very well but made sure he and his sister had everything they needed. When his parents went back to Taiwan during his teen years to provide for their family, it was the local community of Diamond Bar that stepped in to help.

“Community was huge in our upbringing, the restaurant owner that allowed us to stay for hours, doing homework and taking naps, the gym owners that left the doors open late for us to shoot hoops and stay out of trouble. Those are the people that took care of us when our parents were gone.”

They looked out for him, and now he can do the same for them years later. As a first-generation Chinese-American, he wanted to find a way to provide easy and professional veterinary care to his community. Sunshine Veterinary Care proudly offers services in three languages: Mandarin Chinese, English, and Spanish. This trilingual approach is central to our mission of breaking down language barriers and ensuring comprehensive education for all pet owners. We believe in providing accessible, straightforward veterinary care because every member of our community deserves the best for their pets.

His caring nature and passion for helping pets and people led Dr. Z to apply and graduate from veterinary school at Ross University in 2017. His work in the corporate vet world allowed him the opportunity to seek a new side to veterinary care, one that was more fulfilling towards giving back. “When COVID-19 hit in 2020, veterinary visits were backed up for weeks at a time, and people could not get in for appointments, so I started a pet supplements/pet products company.” His company, Wellnergy Pets, works to provide relief to pets through supplements in the Los Angeles area.

His new company gained the attention of USA Network in the Fall of 2021, where he went on the show American’s Big Deal. As an entrepreneur, the game show gave him the chance to not only expand his business but also gain a significant online following through Instagram. He eventually landed a deal with Lowe’s Home Improvement, and his products for Wellnergy Pets can be found in a number of retail stores across America.

Dr. Liao writes, “I believe my greatest strengths as a veterinarian include persistence and grit in the toughest of circumstances and cases.” His dedication as a veterinarian is clear through the work he has done for himself and his community – at the end of the day, the journey to achieve his goals is what matters. He opened the doors of Sunshine Veterinary Care in January 2024 with the goal to help as many people and pets as possible and have a great attitude while doing so. The continued success of his business and practice is a true testament to Dr. Z’s character and devotion to his patients and their animals.

Dr. Liao deeply cherishes his roots in Diamond Bar and seizes every chance to enrich his community. One of his notable initiatives is the ‘Be a Vet’ day, designed to ignite curiosity and passion in local children. This program offers them an immersive, hands-on experience in veterinary medicine, right in the heart of their neighborhood. Growing up mere moments away from where Sunshine Veterinary Care now stands, Dr. Z is committed to fostering a nurturing and educational environment. He envisions the clinic not just as a place for healing but as a learning ground that underscores the significance of veterinary care.

At the core of Dr. Liao’s practice is a commitment to building trust within the Diamond Bar community.
